Guardian Angels School of Clawson, Michigan To Be Honored by U.S. Department of Education’s Secretary, Rod Paige
On September 16th, U.S. Department of Education Secretary, Ron Paige, announced that Guardian Angels School has been selected as a Blue Ribbon School. This award was founded as the cumulative component of President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” education initiative.
Guardian Angels School was one of only forty-eight schools nationally nominated for the Blue Ribbon Award by the Council for American Private Education, or C.A.P.E.. Through an exhaustive application process, Guardian Angels School accounted for its consistently outstanding results on standardized tests.
IOWA tests assess reading, math, science, and social studies progression and is used by both private and public schools. In second through the seventh grades, Guardian Angels averaged a score of two grade levels higher than the national average.
Principal, Susan Leslie, attributes her students’ academic successes to “the Guardian Angels community is wholly invested in our students. We have very giving parents, a supportive administration, and teachers who are prodigiously dedicated. The combination yields children who are engaged, motivated, and likely to succeed.”
Although Guardian Angels School is known within the yellow lines of its own parking lot as “the best kept secret in Oakland County”, the Blue Ribbon Award has suddenly and deservedly elevated Guardian Angels School into the national spotlight.
The Blue Ribbon Award will be presented to Principal Leslie and Rev. Dr. Charles Kosanke, pastor of Guardian Angels Church in Washington D.C. in a special recognition ceremony.
Guardian Angels Catholic School Community consists of Guardian Angels School (K-5) and Guardian Angels Academy (6-8) located in Clawson. The Student Community comes from Troy, Clawson, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Madison Heights and the surrounding areas.
