Elementary Curriculum (Grades K-5)
Core Curriculum
RELIGION
- Each day begins with prayer. Students have daily religious education
that includes sacramental preparation. All grades attend a weekly all
school Mass with the students taking an active role in the liturgy. They
participate in Feast Day celebrations, Stations of the Cross,
Rosary/Marion Devotions, and Reconciliation. All students are involved
in Christian Service activities.
LANGUAGE
ARTS - The English language's grammar, sentence and paragraph
structures are studied along with letter and research paper writing and
oral presentations. Handwriting in the elementary levels is practiced.
LITERATURE/ACCELERATED
READING - Modern and classic literature and comprehension are
studied in all grades.

SPELLING/VOCABULARY
- A spelling curriculum and textbook is used at the Elementary level. A
dedicated vocabulary curriculum and textbook is used at the Academy
level.
SOCIAL
STUDIES - Cultures, geography, history, citizenship and contemporary
issues are studied.
SCIENCE
- Discovery, observation, and experimentation in physical, biological,
and earth sciences are explored in all grades. Yearly Science projects
begin in the third grade.
MATHEMATICS
- Decimals, fractions, integers, metrics, ratios, computation,
estimating, problem solving, algebra, and geometry foundations are
taught. Through Bishop Foley Catholic High School, advanced mathematical
studies are available for high school credit for qualifying 8th graders.
Special Studies
ART
- Visual arts, painting, and drawing are learned.
MUSIC
- Music appreciation, instruction, and vocal skills are studied. Winter
and spring programs are performed.
COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY
- Classes begin in Kindergarten with exposure to multimedia learning and
move into responsible Internet research exploration. Keyboarding is
strengthened in the Academy along with web page development and
multimedia presentation skills.
Traditional software is also studied.
PHYSICAL
EDUCATION - Basic movement experiences, physical development, team
sports/games, and recreational skills are learned.
SPANISH
- Spanish begins in Kindergarten and studies are intensified at the
Academy level.
LITURGICAL
MUSIC - The music of the Catholic Mass is studied and learned along
with other Christian hymns.
LIBRARY - Students develop an appreciation for literature, learn about the organization of the library, and focus on research skills.
SPEECH
THERAPY/ SOCIAL SERVICES / NURSING - Is provided through
Clawson
Schools
and
Oakland
County.
